Latest Updates from Our Project:

Production and Shipping Update
over 7 years ago – Mon, Oct 22, 2018 at 10:34:01 PM

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, the enormity of INFERNO's production and shipping pushed us off track with The Waste Land.  However, we have been working non-stop to catch up, and I am extremely pleased to report that we are nearly back on track!

The Waste Land hit the bindery today, and the first copies will be shipping soon.  I'll send a more detailed shipping timeline once the first copies have shipped, so you'll have a good idea of when your book will arrive.

In the meantime, here are some photos of the text itself.  It's looking marvelous.

ANNOUNCING: Pride and Prejudice
almost 8 years ago – Mon, Sep 10, 2018 at 01:16:18 PM

Friends,

THANK YOU for your quick response on the surveys. We have received most already, and our editor has assigned numbers. Stay tuned for updates from our production team as we go to press . . .

With the The Waste Land, we were given the remarkable honor to publish the work of T.S. Eliot, one of history's finest poets. Today, I’m honored to announce that we have once again been given the opportunity to publish the work of a literary master. This morning we launched our latest Kickstarter project: a letterpress-printed, hand-bound edition of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

We're excited for you to see it!

Thornwillow's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.
Thornwillow's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Just as with The Waste Land, we’re bringing this timeless novel back to its roots in a hand-bound, letterpress-printed edition, using the same exquisite craftsmanship, techniques and style of the Georgian period to make our Pride and Prejudice an edition that would have fit perfectly on Austen’s own bookshelf. To pay true homage to this timeless novel, we’re adding some special additions. As well as historically accurate green bindings, you can expect boards that replicate the wallpaper in Austen’s own home. But there’s more! Every letter exchanged by the characters in the novel, as well as drawings from “Elizabeth Bennet’s sketchbook”, will be reproduced and bound into the book.

We are honored to be able to add this title to our series of crowdfunded editions. Thank you for helping us make this possible! Best wishes, and highest regards from the Press,

Luke

SURVEYS ARE OUT
about 8 years ago – Fri, Jun 01, 2018 at 05:23:02 PM

Friends,

The surveys are now out! Check your inboxes and return them to us as soon as you can.

For those who haven't used Backerkit surveys before, here's how they work:

First, you are asked about copy numbering and the subscribers list. Remember: if you have a good reason for requesting a specific number, let us know!

Second, you are given the opportunity to add books to your pledge. You do not need to do so: you can just click right on through if you'd like. We've made a few things available as a thanks for your support.

This is the last time that pre-publication pricing will be offered for The Waste Land or Inferno in cloth and paper-wrappers. As the edition becomes more and more scarce, the price goes up and up. We are offering some past editions. This may be the last time we offer copies of Sherlock, Sonnets, and Frankenstein, as those editions are getting scarce! Pick up a copy while you can.

Third, you will be asked for your address. You can change your address if you need to up until July 1.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the survey. You can reach out via a Kickstarter message, or reach our editor directly at [email protected]

Best wishes, and expect production updates soon!

Friends,

We are thrilled by your support and enthusiasm for The Waste Land. That a poem could do so well in the twenty-first century is exciting. We cannot wait to share it with you. Soon surveys will be sent out. When they are, we will send out a big update giving you all the salient details about the surveys, the production timeline, and some exciting sneak peeks into the edition!

Until then, very best wishes, and highest regards from the Press,

THANK YOU + What The Thunder Said
about 8 years ago – Sat, Apr 14, 2018 at 09:34:12 PM

Friends,

THANK YOU for your support of THE WASTE LAND in its opening days. In less than 48 hours we have raised $40,000 with over 150 of you. Needless to say, we are honored to have your support.

Then spoke the thunder

DA

This edition means a lot to me. In particular, we are offering one copy, What The Thunder Said, which is unique in Thornwillow history, and which carries with it a piece of Eliot himself. The copy is printed letterpress on handmade paper, the initial letter of each part is hand-illuminated, but most significantly, bound into the book is T. S. Eliot's signature from my own collection.

The signature by itself is significant. Eliot was famously reserved about signing his work. He usually did not participate in book signings, and so his signature only ever graced his books when they were given to friends, or when a lucky reader happened across him on the street. Not only is the signature bound into this book a particularly high quality specimen (written large, clearly, and with robust fountain pen ink), but it is bound up with Thornwillow history as well.

When I was sixteen, I took a class on T. S. Eliot which quite literally shaped my life and catalyzed the beginning of Thornwillow. As I became enmeshed in Eliot's work, I also came to know the work of Virginia Woolf's Hogarth Press, which published the first UK edition of The Waste Land. The edition was printed letterpress in Woolf's basement, and hand-bound on her kitchen table. Inspired by this, I set out to publish something of my own, a little book called Hello Sun, also printed letterpress, and also bound quite literally on my kitchen table. I needed a publishing imprint for my book, and thus Thornwillow was born.

I hope that this signature from my collection will be a THANK YOU to the patron subscriber who backs this copy and in so doing is dramatically helping to make this project possible. A Thornwillow edition of The Waste Land has been a dream since the beginning, a dream which Thornwillow is rooted in. I am so excited that this is becoming a reality, and honored that you have decided to share in this edition with me and with our whole team.

Thank you again for your support, and, as always, very best regards from the press,

Luke
